Gift of Heat Winner 2021
At 6:45am this Wednesday morning, a few members of our Western Heating and Air Family teamed up with FM100 radio station, and braved the dense, freshly fallen winter snow as they headed up to West Valley, Utah, to surprise a loving family in need. And what did they surprise this beautiful family with? A brand new furnace.
The couple, Morris and Leanne Ewell, have lived without a functioning furnace for the last five years. With an average snowfall of 42.3 inches a year, and temperatures regularly plummeting to as low as 23 degrees, a lack of furnace is not a situation anybody would like to find themselves in while living in West Valley. In the words of their grandson, Austin Ewell, “to say it gets cold during winter would be an understatement.” It is because of this trying circumstance that Austin headed over to FM100’s website and nominated his grandparents for our Gift of Heat Giveaway, a yearly event where we give back to a member of our community by providing them with one of the most heartwarming gifts of all: heat, through a new furnace.
In his nominating entry, Austin wrote, “I am nominating my grandparents and the people who live with them. They have three grandchildren living with them in their home… they have always given far more than they have ever received. My grandmother has basically raised all of her grandkids.” He continues to discuss health, circumstantial, and financial struggles his grandparents have battled against, and how, despite their many trials, they continue to selflessly protect their family. “I know they really need this,” he says. “This would be a huge weight off their shoulders.”
As we knocked on their door – gifts and cameras in tow – astonishment lit up Morris and Leanne’s faces. Could this really be happening? Were they about to be warm for the first time in five years? Our technicians wasted no time as the hurried in, removed the old furnace, and efficiently installed the new furnace that will last for years to come. We are so grateful for the means provided to us – for talented installers, thoughtful team-members, and generous partners – to be able to give gifts like this to our community. It truly makes this time of year, the most wonderful time of the year.
